There was a time when I didn’t like Facebook.
I put it down to not understanding it, and being tagged in a very unflattering photo.
And then I didn’t get twitter.
I thought it was just sandwich updates from celebrities, and the one time I tried to go on, I clicked on a hash tag and got a whole lot of tweets on the same thing. I didn’t realise that Twitter doesn’t exist without you; you have to be in it, to see it, cause it’s different for everyone.
So with that in my mind, it doesn’t surprise me that Pinterest has not captured my interest.
Again, I just don’t get it.
I did have an account for a while. I even pinned stuff on some boards, and had followers and stuff.
But my pins were all cute pictures of animals, or inspirational sayings I might possibly use in a blog post.
And I never looked at them again.
Until I needed a blog picture of course.
When there was all the drama a little while ago about pinterest being illegal, I deleted my account. I just didn’t see the point, and really it didn’t bother me.
I wasn’t in the least bit upset.
But every now and then I see people talking about it on Facebook and wonder ‘am I missing out? Is there some hidden joy here that I’m too clueless to see?’
So I’m seriously asking, what is the point of Pinterest?
From what I can tell, people go on there and find pictures of things they would like in their houses. Like this.
It’s nice yes, but you know what, I’m never going to have it, so why look at it?
That’s kind of depressing.
Or you can plan things like parties. Kids birthday parties with all the trimmings.
It looks pretty, but how long would that take to do? And what’s the difference between that and some streamers from Kmart and a couple of balloons the kids can play with?
Maybe it’s me; maybe I just don’t have the creativity, but I can’t see the point. My kids may grow up to be scarred by the fact that they had dodgy decorations and fairy bread for every birthday.
Somehow though, I doubt it.
I do like the idea of the sewing pins with tutorials attached.
It’s just the things I like never have tutorials.
And I can google that instead.
To be fair, this one did have a tute. Click the link to it 🙂
So tell me, what am I missing?
