This is a product review and giveaway.
You know what I think would have to be one of the coolest jobs in the world? Being in charge of movie soundtracks. Or even just compiling movie trailers. But mostly soundtracks. TV would also work for me. I just love the idea of choosing the perfect song to play in the background of a montage of emotionally enticing scenes. I love hearing the rise and swell of a song I’ve never heard but now really want to, because of the pivotal moments played out on my screen as the chords hit their peak. I even have a playlist on Spotify, that for the most part is dedicated to these songs. I’m not going to lie; a lot of them came from Grey’s Anatomy episodes. They do the background music very well.Anyway, it was while I was listening to said playlist on Spotify, that I first came across the movie Aloha. Spotify offers you thirty minutes of ad free music if you watch their selected commercial, and on this one particular day I clicked yes, just to get it over with. I wasn’t even watching the ad (most of my music listening happens in the kitchen), but the song playing in the movie montage hooked me in. So much so, that it got an add to my list. (It’s First by Cold War Kids in case anyone’s interested.)
It was in checking the song, that I caught the tail end of the movie commercial, and then made the conscious decision to watch the advertisement the next time Spotify offered.
Oh, and of course, there is the romantic drama, the all-star cast (Bradley Cooper, Alex Baldwin and Rachel McAdams to name a few), and the Hawaiian backdrop that will have you planning a holiday, but I’ll let you see that for yourself. (There was also some pretty stellar script writing in my opinion. I could have paused and written down lines multiple times, but that may have tested Boatman’s patience a little.)
Now from that particular clip, I deduced that Aloha was a Rom-Com, which already made it appealing to me (boy meets girl, misunderstandings, revelations, romantic scene in the end– I’m a fan), but to my surprise it was actually more than that. This is a story with depth, which managed to combine Hawaiian legends, physics, fallible characters and Emma Stone as a fighter pilot, with incredible ease. (Boatman argued there wasn’t enough plane flying. Some people are impossible to please. 😉 )
And see it you can, because I’ve got two Aloha packs to giveaway, each containing a digital copy of the film (you’ll need iTunes to download), an Aloha beach bag and pair of super cool fighter pilot sunnies, as modeled by Boatman.
