I am risking incurring the wrath of the translators of the King James by publishing this, but Jesus always spoke to the people in parables they understood.
This is actually the parable of the lost coin, but seeing as many of us wouldn’t search high and low for a random coin, I think this is much more fitting.
Particularly after the morning we have had.
Then did the mothers with small children gather around him, and the single and newly married murmured saying, ‘this man receiveth mothers and eateth with them.’ And he spake this parable unto them, saying….
Either what mother of small children, having a full pair of shoes, if she lose one shoe, does not switch on all the lights, turn the house upside down, repeatedly asketh her toddler wherein he last placedeth his shoe and seek diligently until she finds it?
And when she hath found it, she texteth all her friends, and posts on face book saying, Rejoice with me! For I have found the left shoe that my child did loseth! I needeth not go and buy another pair!’
Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”
Luke 15: 1-3, 8-10 (Sort of)
Watch this space for rejoicing; we haven’t found it yet
