Today, I am thankful for this.
‘What is it?’ I hear you ask.
It’s an ADSL in-line filter/splitter, but the important thing is that it is new.
Last week I was having some Internet connection problems. It kept dropping in and out, and was more than a little annoying. As the weekend progressed, it got gradually worse, so I rang Telstra on Sunday and they fixed it.
For about three hours.
Then it dropped out again.
So I called back on Monday. They were very apologetic and helpful and tried something else.
Again it worked.
Until Monday night when I tried to schedule my IBOT post for Tuesday morning. Boatman did some fiddling and managed to get it working long enough for me to press ‘publish.’
Thank God he did, cause Tuesday I had nothing. No Internet. Just the very slow and small screen of my iPhone to tell me of all the links being added to I Blog on Tuesday;all the links I couldn’t read.
By Tuesday afternoon I was more than a little annoyed, and almost ready to go out and buy some prepaid wireless Internet time. My dad asked me what was wrong, and when I explained he was less than compassionate. ‘Can’t you remember when we didn’t have the Internet?’
‘Yes, but I didn’t blog then!’ I was like some crazy crack addict, about to go psycho cause I couldn’t get my fix.
Then I remembered something. Boatman had mentioned we had a new splitter in the office/MIL’s room, and maybe that was the problem. I crazily pulled apart the filing cabinet (they are not really used for filing; more for storing all the rubbish that doesn’t fit anywhere else), until I found it.
Still in it’s wrapper.
I swapped the new one for the old and then with anxious anticipation examined the monitor for a still green light next to the word Internet.
Slowly…magically…dare I say it,….reverently, it appeared.
I kicked all the kids outside giving Grandad strict instructions to watch them, while I tried to speed read through as many posts as I could, in case it dropped out again.
But beautifully, it never did.
Telstra has since sent out a line checking dude (that’s his official title I’m sure) and it’s all set, so I guess it was just an issue with the splitter after all.
Words can not do justice to how unbelievably thankful I am that we had a spare in the cupboard. The random web traveller may not understand, but the Internet is literally like oxygen to a blogger. Without it we shrivel up and become a hollow, inspired mess, with nowhere to vent our creative frustration.
It’s not pretty I can assure you. (Just ask Boatman.)
So thats it. With all the good things that have happened this week, that is the one that really stood out and changed everything. (Yes even better than not having a heart attack. Cause if I had survived that and not got to blog about it, I would be so ticked off.)And just think, without it you would never have got to read this, and how would you feel about that? Just gutted and not very thankful I’m sure.
What are you thankful for? And feel free to say it’s the little magic box that enables you to read my fantastically written, and completely scintillating blog. 😉
My comment box is a bit emo, and sometimes seemingly goes on vacation. If you’d like to post a comment, or eavesdrop on someone else’s, click on the post title and watch it magically appear!
