This is a post about nothing.
Actually it’s just a clever post. A camouflage post, if you will. Just something to put out there into the blogosphere to remove that last yucky post. I didn’t want to look at it anymore.
I thought about deleting it, but somehow that seemed to be antagonistic with my belief in being authentic. I embrace authenticity; I choose to be real. Sometimes being real is not pretty. Sometimes it’s sad and lonely, and not what people need to see.
But it’s there, so I’ll leave it, and cover it up by this.
A fluffy post.
Or a post about fluff.
Or fluff’s to be correct.
There are a lot of things that you never thought you would know about your kids before you had them. You assumed you would learn their favourite colour, or tv show, or flavour of ice-cream.
But one thing no one told you was that you would be able to differentiate between your children by their smell.
Or, more specifically, the smell of their wind.
Yes, that’s right, in a dark room at night, if someone cuts the cheese, nine times out of ten, I can tell exactly who did it.
I’m not sure if that makes me a good mum, or just a little bit crazy.
I always ask, ‘who did a bubble?’ (That’s what Taylah called it the first time she ever noticed doing one, and it has stuck), and occassionly some brave soul will either shout ‘me!’ enthusiastically, or mutter ‘pardon me,’ while staring at the floor. But the question is usually irrelevant. Once that smell has permeated my nostrils, it has flown to the command centre of my brain where, like Hodgens on Bones, the basic components are stripped down to their rawest form, categorised, and a verdict is handed down.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to be a mum, because it seemed like Mum’s always knew everything.
I just was not aware that this would be one of those things I would know.
So is it just me? Can you distinguish between your kids ‘bubbles’?
