Since trying not to drink so much (an attempt that is easier on some days than others), I’ve been a little lost for beverages. I know that water is the best thing that you can have, and honestly, I love water. It’s just that sometimes it gets a little….. boring.
I love soft drink. Pepsi Max, Diet Coke or the odd ginger beer. It’s a nice change from the boringness that is water.
Unfortunately after googling the detriments of Nutri-Sweet, Boatman has suggested (in a masculine, I am the head of the house kind of way) that we not drink it any more.
Which means I’m stuck with water. Sometimes with ice.
And a little bit of lemon.
I’ll be honest, I never considered juice. It’s got lots of sugar in it and its just plain bad for you I thought. I’d be better off having coke.
Thankfully for me, Fruit Juice Australia, as if reading my mind, decided to get into contact with me to set me straight.
Juice, it turns out, is not bad for you.
On the contrary, it is actually nutritionally and sugarily (totes sure that’s a word) a completely adequate substitute for fruit, which is great for me, since I really don’t love fruit and neither does miss Bridie. I now have complete faith that if we have just a glass of juice a day (and wine does not class as grape juice), then I’m halfway to what I need.
Now as if this revelation was not enough to change my mind, the lovely folk at get the juice, sent me a delicious cooler bag flu of juices to try, and I have since been pinning a whole bunch of drinks to try for the summer. Not that I have actually tried any yet, but that’s more a case of not having the time, and too much to choose from, than not wanting to.
Anyways, here are some of my top hits.
The Lime Sunset Non-Alcoholic Cocktail
Pineapple, cranberry, lime juice, fresh apricot nectar and ginger beer. What could possibly be wrong with this? I’m imagining lounging by the pool in Roxy with my red plastic glass and a perfectly relaxed demeanour.
The last one may, or may not be hopeful.
Grape Juice Cocktail
Grape juice is one of the healthiest juices you can have. Not only is it lower in sugar, but it has benefits for bone formation, something I personally would never have guessed!
Purple Razzle Dazzle Shake
This is a great one for the kids. Grape juice and ice-cream.
Need I say more.
I’ll admit I love this one just for the name.
I will be making to for the family, just so that when they say, ‘whats for afternoon tea?’ I can answer ‘a purple cow.’
Now the good news.
In the lead up to Christmas, and with the advent of Summer, everyone should have the change to play with cocktails and detox with juice. Which is why Fruit Juice Australia is giving one Essentially Jess reader a delicious fruit juice pack to play with, and create delicious cock or mock tails.
