Just a quick one. I have GEMS (Godly Encouragement for MumS) on this morning, and our topic is We’re all in this Together: the importance of like minded community.
When I was thinking about this last night (or anytime in the a last week for that matter) my head was really foggy and incapable of any thought, but God by His grace, provided me with much clarity this morning.
As we were on our morning walk (minimal flower picking this morning), I was reminded of a verse in Hebrews.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
I have been struggling a little bit lately. A lot actually. And it’s not something I have admitted to a lot of people, but I have actually started taking medication for post natal depression. I might regret confiding that later, but I need to remind myself this is not something to be ashamed of; this is just life.
A beautiful well timed message from a friend this morning gave me just the encouragement I needed to get through GEMS, and this morning, but these sorts of messages shouldn’t be random occurrences. We should be encouraging each other all the time! Let’s face it; most of us don’t have a clue. Or if we do have some kind of inkling of what we should be doing, we are struggling in actually doing it.
But we are not alone. Hebrews says let’s not give up. Let’s hold on to hope because God doesn’t let us down. Even when life seems hard or impossible, or just incredibly mundane, he is faithful.
And let’s not keep that to ourselves! Let’s share it with everyone we know! Let’s encourage each other as mums in the good times and the bad. When it’s funny and it’s sad. When it’s exciting and when it’s really, really boring.
A far as I am concerned, being a mother is one of the highest callings in the world. There are a lot of things we can get wrong, but making a decision to have our babies, no matter the circumstances we fall pregnant in, is not one of them. You know when that baby is inside of you, God put it there. No doubt about it.
So it follows then that God will help us raise them. He doesn’t leave us alone in the vast wilderness of parenting, hoping that we might stumble across some random truth that will help us. He is ready and available to help us. And one of the ways he does that, is by us helping each other.
While it is good to be around people who have the same parenting goals and values as us, its important that we still encourage those who don’t. The fact of the matter is that we are all at different stages in our journey, and while some need more practical help than others, we all need help. Some of us look like we have it all together, and yet we are struggling with secret battles.
This morning I get to have women in my house and encourage them with their parenting, while they in turn encourage me. But even better than that, I get to write here and hopefully encourage you too.
So enjoy your day! Love your kids, do good deeds, and be true to who you are. And never forget that regardless of what you do, or who you are, there is hope, because He who holds our hands never lets us go.
And if that’s not encouraging then I don’t know what is.
