In just under two weeks, Bridie will be going in for her Tympanoplasty, to fix the hole in her ear drum, and hopefully end her ear issues forever!
The first time one of our kids ever had a surgical procedure was when Taylah had her adenoids out, and as a reward for being so brave, we had a present waiting for her when she came into recovery.
It seemed only fair that when Bridie went in for her Grommet, and first Tympanoplasty, that we do the same.
Four or five surgical procedures later (I honestly can’t remember), and we are stuck with a rather expensive little habit.
Now to be honest, it doesn’t bother me too much. Particularly with all the dramas this ear has caused, a little present is the least we can do. Besides I know how much pain she was in after the first one, and this is a more extensive procedure.
And I love buying presents.
However to complicate the problem, the surgery is happening the day of her swimming carnival. A few months ago, when the upper primary had theirs, Bridie was distraught she had missed out. We had to encourage her that her turn would come, and she would have her very own carnival, and mummy would come and watch her.
Of course, then the school goes and plans it for the one day we are guaranteed not to be there, and the tears were flowing so hard I’m not sure if it was fear of the op, or missing out which hurt the most.
So in my
infinite wisdom spur of the moment haste I promised her a really good present for afterwards.
But I have a problem.
What on earth do I buy?
What she really wants is one of these just like Taylah.
Taylah also thinks this is a great idea (probably so she doesn’t have to share), and that wouldn’t be such a bad idea, if she wasn’t going to look like this for the first four hours after.
Makes earphones seem kinda pointless.
So I need something that she can use straight after, that will occupy her for a good stretch of time, and something I do not have to rob a bank for. (Remember the dog and her viscous shenanigans?)
